The Brooklyn Academy of Music
The Brooklyn Academy of Music proved once again, that running an online auction can be an art form.
For the third straight year, cMarket helped The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) raise funds through our online auction services. As they did in previous years, BAM focused their efforts on building a catalog of prints, photography, paintings and other art related offerings. They opened over one hundred items online for bidding. As a result, BAM raised over $212,000 and ran their most successful online auction to date.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music is recognized as a preeminent progressive cultural center - offering concerts, festivals and performances such as opera, theater and dance. Their visual arts program, BAMart, exhibits works by contemporary artists, and offers supporters the opportunity to purchase these pieces. The BAMart online auction showcased a number of donated works, several from notable artists in fact, that benefited these programs and supported the Academy.
One of the most successful works in the BAMart auction was a Saul Steinberg piece in the "Mixed Media" category which was estimated to be worth $60,000. The item received 4 bids and raised $49,000 for the auction. In addition to "Mixed Media", BAM featured 28 pieces in the "Photograph" category and earned $69,645 for the organization.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music took full advantage of their cMarket fundraiser. They benefited from the internet's broad reach, used the mass appeal to draw attention to their catalog, and were successful at promoting new artists as well. BAM was able to create a large exhibit beyond their facility. The BAMart online auction ended up being a springboard for newcomers while raising more money for the Academy's programs and services. .
